Library Hunter App Reviews
How do search?
I used Book Hunter and was happy with it. Library Hunter is missing several crucial features that render it useless for any serious collector. 1. It refused to import my Book Hunter data. Apparently, the two programs have different database fields, and even when they have similar fields, the author has designated them with different terms. So Library Hunter doesn’t know what to do with Book Hunter’s data. It kindly asked me how to classify 30 different database fields. Obviously, I didn’t know either, since none of the choices in the dropdown menu matched. 2. Despite the software description’s claims that the user only needs to type in part of a title and the rest will be retrieved from the internet, this does not occur. There is no internet search feature that happens automatically, that exists in the app window, that lives in a menu, or that can be activated in preferences. It’s just not there. So I have to manually enter every single thing about every one of my thousands of books? I might as well just make a list. 3. There’s no option to scan the ISBN code like there was in Book Hunter. I could overlook this if the autocomplete internet search feature worked, but it doesn’t. Conclusion: Because of the features this app is missing, it’s useless to anyone who wishes to catalog a large number of books, movies, games, etc. because you will have to manually type in all the information.
I used to use the old version of this app, which was part of the Hunter Suite. It was fantastic. But having one app for books, one for movies, and one for games got cumbersome. Enter Library Hunter. I could have all these databases in one handy place! While that certainly sounds great, this is missing a key feature the old version had. No autocomplete feature. You used to be able to enter the ISBN or barcode or title and the old app would search the web and find it for you. Library hunter? Not so much. You have to hand enter everything. When you’re entering multiple items at a time, this gets really old really fast. That glaring omission aside, this application is really useful when at the bookstore, trying to remember if you own that book. It also makes it rather simple to keep track of a larger collection. Add in the ability to autocomplete the entries and this becomes a 5 star app, and one that I belive would be an essential. Otherwise, it’s one that I only halfheartedly use.
